BSNL Wings: VoIP Based Service for Areas with Poor Cellular Connectivity The reason why BSNL has debuted the Wings service is that the telco wants to serve the subscribers in areas with poor cellular connectivity. During the launch of BSNL Wings, the telecom operator had highlighted that VoIP services could be an innovative solution for the subscribers in the region where there is poor cellular connectivity. In these areas, the users struggle to make calls, however, with an internet connection and with a VoIP service, it won’t matter which operator the subscribers use, since they will be able to make calls over the internet. Another advantage which BSNL Wings users will experience is that they will simply have to pay an upfront amount at the start of the year to access the BSNL Wings service. After this initial payment, the BSNL Wings service will be free for the entire year to the subscriber. The subscriber will have to download the BSNL Wings app, register with their login details and make the one-time payment. The users of BSNL Wings will also be able to make video calls through the app as well, which will be another added advantage. Also, since BSNL Wings uses the Packet Switching technology, users will be able to make calls from their laptops, desktops, landlines or even a SIM-less mobile phone. BSNL Wings: Registering and Making Your First Call To start using the BSNL Wings service, the subscribers will have to follow a step by step process. Firstly, the subscribers will have to make the one-time annual payment of Rs 1,099. After this, they will be required to download the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol). After this, a 10-digit subscription ID will be allocated to the customers. The subscribers will also receive a 16-digit PIN on their registered email address which they will be able to use for activating the BSNL Wings service. After successfully registering for BSNL Wings, the subscribers will be able to make calls via the apps and these users will also be able to make calls to their contacts as well. BSNL has also allowed international calling through the Wings app, but the deposit for the same would be Rs 2,000, and these international calls would be charged according to the existing landline tariff for international calls.
